tomorrow is halloween.yesterday we buried the 500.we placed the cowhooves flat on the ground with the open ends facing each other and tried to point them to the east.we put one layer down added some dirt on top of them(about 2 inches)and added a second layer.the pit was about 18 to 20 inches deep.there was over 500 individual hooves and about 14 horns.we buried them in the pit next to our compost piles.hope the compost preps can help the 500 and vise versa.we also emptied the 501 horn that we dug up and set it in the sunny side window to dry.we will store it in a glass mason jar in the window until we need it.i dont know how to tell if it is good or not.500 doesnt smell like manure anymore and has a silky like feel when you rub it between your fingers.i suppose we could dowse it with a pendulum to check for energies.maybe we will try it and let you know.do you know about dowsing there is a website called letter to robin which explains about what it is and how to do it.i keep saying ill try but i have not yet.

明日はハロウィーンです。昨日私たちは調合剤５００番を土に埋めました。
牛の爪を開いた方同士を合わせ、土の上に平らに、東を指すように並べました。
一段目を並べた上に５センチくらいの土をかぶせ、その上に２段目を並べました。
穴の深さは、だいたい４５～５０センチで、５００個以上の牛の爪と１４個の角を埋めました。
調合剤５００番を埋める穴は、堆肥の横に掘りました。堆肥に入れた調合剤と今回埋めた５００番がたがいに作用し合うことを願っています。
また、掘り起こした調合剤５０１番の角の中身を出して、日当たりの良い窓辺で乾かすことにしました。それがいいのかどうかわからないのですが、ガラスビンにいれて、必要な時まで窓辺に置いておくつもりです。
５００番はもう堆肥の匂いがせず、サラサラとした指触りです。５００番のエネルギーをチェックするために、クリスタルを使ってダウジングをしてみたいと思っています。たぶん近いうちに結果をお知らせできるでしょう。
「letter　to　ｒobin」というウェブサイトがあるのをご存じですか？そこではダウジングとは何か、どのようにするかを説明しています。
私はやるやると言い続けていますが、まだ実現できずにいます。

the next day was a day off from work to work on the greenhouse attached to our house.we will be getting chickens soon.we will keep them in here until we move the chickens's greenhouse here and get it setup.we got everything ready for plastic now.we inherited these 40 silky chickens from a friend who lost her life in an auto accident.she has been trying to raise them organically but has been having trouble finding organic food for them.we know an organic farmer who makes his own feed.he ferments some leftover and by products from food factories here locally.the byproducts and leftovers are not organic but the fermentation process evidently makes it sterile so it must be close enough.growing your own feed is the only way in japan to get your own organic feed for your animals.we feed our cows organic hay that we sprayed with maria thun's recipe of bc that konomi and the bd association of hokkaido made last year and fertilizer from everwin a company of agrisystems by ito-san.plus our cows get plenty of pasture that too was sprayed by the bc.but because we feed them daikons from seconds at work and ja feed for betty we can not claim our cows as organic or biodynamic yet but we are getting close to that goal of being totally organic and being demeter certified.there is talk going around about organic feed growers and people growing their own feed.we are renting some organic cropland next year to make our own feed.next we have to find and buy organic seed.we are looking for organic feed seed growers.ive talk about the need for organic seed and feed growers before so ill move on.she has been raiseing these chickens for eggs.the eggs are small but taste pretty good.but the were bred to be meat birds.in china they are said to be healthier for you because of their black skin.they have feathers down to their feet and a ping pong ball shaped hair style on their heads.they are small to medium in size and very good setters.we hope to offer them as eggs and meat to our csa customers next year.speaking of csa did i tell you we are starting a csa for next year?more details later.after the chickens are settled in we will work on getting ready for winter projects.csa planning,workshops,winter soltice party and a study group, among other things.now the prep making season is finished except the yarrow flowers and collecting deer bladders for the spring season.remember to plan to plant some biodynamic herbs in your garden next year.valerian,chamomile,yarrow,dandelion stinging nettle and horsetail weed.some of these are easy to find in the wild.just try to find them where no chemicals are used if possible.this winter we will try to keep cows and chickens healthy and happy during the cold weather.it will be my first winter as a farmer here in hokkaido.wish me luck.there is already snow in the mountains behind the house and it is getting colder here.summer has been a learning experience for me.we are still getting settled in.we have met some wonderful people who we wish to see more of during the winter as they and we have been very busy this summer.ill be glad to sit a talk to our friends and not be rushed to work so much and enjoy each others company.

次の日は、ダイコン農家のアルバイトが休みだったので、我が家（スーパーハウス）に隣接したビニールハウス作りをしました。
もうすぐ鶏がやってきます。
鶏用のビニールハウスをここに運んできて設置するまでの間、この臨時のビニールハウスで鶏たちを飼うのです。
もうビニールを貼るための準備がすべて整いました。
私たちはつややかな４０羽の鶏を、つい最近自動車事故で亡くなった更別村の友人から受け継いだのです。
彼女は鶏たちを有機的に飼育したくて、有機飼料を探すためにずっと苦労していました。
我々は自分で飼料を作っている有機農家の人を知っています。その農家さんは残飯や、この近隣や道内の食品工場から出た副産物を発酵させて安全なエサを作って売っています。残飯や副産物はオーガニックではないのですが、発酵の過程が確実に滅菌してくれるので、近いものにはなるでしょう。
日本において自分の家畜に有機飼料を与えたかったら、自分で飼料を作るしかないのです。
私たちはうちの牛たちに、去年このみと北海道バイオダイナミック協会の仲間たちが作ったマリア・テューン製法による樽堆肥と、アグリシステムの伊藤さんの農法によるエヴァーウィンという会社の肥料を散布したオーガニックの干し草を与えています。加えて牛たちは、樽堆肥が散布されたたくさんの牧草を食べています。
しかし私たちは傷物の大根や農協の子牛用のえさをベッティーに（冬を越せるよう太らすために）食べさせているので、まだ彼らを有機またはバイオダイナミック牛であると主張することはできませんが、完全にオーガニックでデメターに認証されるという目標に近づきつつあります。
有機飼料の生産者と独自の飼料で家畜を育てている人々のやり方についてよく私たちは話し、どうやって有機飼料でできるのか考えています。
とりあえず、私たちは来年、自分たちの飼料を作るためのオーガニック農地を借りる予定です。そのためにオーガニックの種を探して買わなくてはなりません。
今、オーガニック飼料の種を探しているところです。上記でオーガニック飼料と種苗家の必要性について触れたので、先の話を続けます。

彼女は私たちが譲り受ける鶏を、卵を得るために育てていました。
その卵は小さいけれどとてもおいしいものでした。でも烏骨鶏は本来は食肉用でした。中国では、その鶏は黒い皮フをしているので、体にいいと言われています。
足まで毛に覆われていて、ピンポン球のようなふわふわの白い毛が頭の上に付いています。鳥のサイズはやや小さめから中くらいで、よく卵を抱きます。（ひよこを育てます）
来年CSAのメンバー（農場会員）に、卵と鶏肉の両方を提供したいと考えています。
CSAと言えば、来年から始めるCSAのことをお話ししたことがあったでしょうか？
詳しくはまた別の機会に書きます。
鶏たちの小屋作りが落ち着いたら、冬の計画の準備に取りかかるつもりです。
CSAの計画を練ったり、ワークショップを開いたり、冬至パーティーに勉強会…まだまだあります。
今は、春に向けてノコギリソウと牡鹿の膀胱を集めることを除いては、調合剤作りも一段落しました。

どうぞ、みなさんの畑に来年バイオダイナミック・ハーブを植えることを忘れないでください。
カノコソウ、カモミール、ノコギリソウ、タンポポ、イラクサ、スギナです。
その中のいくつかは自生しているものを簡単に見つけることができます。
出来る限り農薬が使われていない場所のものを探してください。

この冬は、厳しい気候のなかで牛と鶏たちが健康で幸せに過ごせるよう、努めたいと思います。
私にとって、農業者としては初めて北海道で迎える冬となります。
どうぞ幸運を祈ってください。

家の後ろの山にはもう雪が積もっていて、日に日に寒さが増しています。
夏の間、私たちはたくさんの学びを体験しました。
そして、まだここでの生活に根を下ろしている過程にあります。
私たちは素晴らしい人々との出会いに恵まれましたが、夏の間２人ともとても忙しかったので、冬の間にもっと色々な方と会う機会を持ちたいと思っています。
あんまり仕事にせかされないで、友とゆっくり座って語り合い、楽しい時間を過ごせたら嬉しいです。
