It sure is good to feel like a gardener again.Today we directly seeded some seeds into our csa garden. We planted 9 rows about 18 meters long. This is the very start of something big for us.The weather was cool cloudy and a little bit windy. We could only sow a small section of the garden because the rest of it was way too wet.The snow has just now melted here and other farms has been melted for a couple of weeks a head of us.So we are getting a late start compared to them.Of course we know that there will be a couple more frost ahead for us but we are using floating row covers and planting cold weather crops. We have started a lot of seeds in the greenhouse but being in the garden really made me feel like a gardener again. We are expecting rain and cold weather soon so we got the seeds in just in time and in the right zodiac signs too as well. The new farmers market is opening on May 20th and we will only have some baby greens to sell as vegetables and plants and a few eggs and maybe some bread.
If it doesn't rain tomorrow I'll start the foundation to the brick oven.If it does rain we will pick the flowers off the yarrow we harvested last year and do some planning. The moon is ascending now for about 15 days and will descend again on the 29th of April. So we won't plant anything but we'll try to concentrate on the oven during this time.I need to build more nest boxes and seed flats too.We are trying to keep a garden journal. It is going to get real real busy around here now.
Luckily we have some volunteer helpers Tatsuo-san and his son Masanoli-san have been staying in our guest room since last week and say they are comfortable there. They are both good workers and enjoy learning. They have got part time jobs at the candy factory where we are working too.We are seeking wwoofers to stay and share their experience from other farms with us and have them share their experience with us with others when they leave. We don't know yet if we are ready for apprentices yet or not.We have a lot to teach but also have a lot to learn. But all help is welcome. We want to share our biodynamic farming method with as many people as possible.
But now it is time to rest and be ready for another big day on ou bd farm.
Love and peace.
Ben.
