We got snow.About 2 or 3 inches. It has covered the ground. This week we started on the brickoven. We poured the foundation and started the cinderblock work.We ordered the other materials we need for the oven and will work on it again as soon as the snow is gone.We put an electric fence around the small patch of woods behind our house that has bamboo like grass in it.The Japanese people call this grass bear grass because the bear like to eat it too.The cows love it.After the cows have grazed the bear grass and the pasture is ready for them then we may get some pigs to put in there.I started on a chicken tractor for the chickens to be put on pasture.Achicken tractor is really a portable chicken house with no bottom so the chickens can scratch around the ground for worms and other insects, fresh grass and weeds and fertilize the ground too.It needs to be moved everyday.Their greenhouse will be used to grow tomatoes and other tender vegetables until winter again.

Konomi is writing another article about her trip to Kyushu and Tokyo with the Demeter and anthroposophical society news. She first went to Kyushu to Pokawapa to Denis Piiliaud's place to discuss the B.A.A.J. registration and Demeters requirements with a representative form the Goetheanum in Dornach Switzerland. It will be published in a newsletter to members of the International Anthroposophical Society around the world.Good work Konomi. She has been working real hard at the networking and helping to spread the work about the biodynamic movement here in Japan.
We went to a meeting of the Tokachi Organic Network at the Natural Coco cafe'for dinner and the general meeting.I volunteered to become a board member and participate in the boards activities.I am the bottom man on the totem pole but at least i can help give them some ideas and help out as much as i can.We need to help the organic movement here too.The organic consumer is more likely to buy biodynamic products next. And the organic farmer might be interested in biodynamic methods once they see how we do it.That is why our csa garden is so important. There is going to be a lot of people interested in our garden and they will want to see and taste the results of our method. This is my first biodynamic garden and my first time growing in cold weather and i'm in a foreign country.I have a lot of learning to do but i have a lot of will and a good partner.Konomi has been gardening in Hokkaido for a long time now.Together we make a good team. She is still a great woman and i'm proud to know her and be her partner.
We are getting a committee formed to organize a summer soltice music festival to create an awareness about organic farming.More news about this later.
Things are going along as planned for our farm but i did not expect it to snow near the end of April.I will be prepared for a late frost in May as that can happen to us in Virginia too.
We are on rented land and can be asked to move in a couple of years. But we have to keep going forward and hope another opportunity comes up in the future for us and our mission. Our garden may have to be abandoned if we have to leave and we'll have to start again on anther place but we are still going to stay involved with biodynamic's and try to stay in this area and continue our csa for our members and have a model garden.Within these next few years we will have made some more biodynamic preparations to share with B.A.A.J. and other people interested in trying them.It usually takes a farm 5 years to show significant results,we are trying to do it in 3 years.
Maybe you can see the hard work ahead of us and maybe you would like to help.We would like for you to pray for us and/or become a supporting member. You can contact us through the comment section here or call or write to us.I dont know why you are reading my article i would like to think you are interested in the biodynamic movement and our mission but i want to thank you for your time.I hope you will visit us and see how we love what we do.We love each other and we do what we do for all humanity. We want to help Japan become more organic minded and offer an alternative method to using chemicals.Organic and biodynamic food simply taste better and are better for your health and the environment. This is one of our ways of helping humanity. Please comment or contact us for any news or events that we might be able to help in this area of the world for the whole world.Thanks. Love and peace.Ben.
