2008/06/24summer soltice party review 夏至パーティー!

21日夜、バンド”ネイバーズ”そして飛び入り参加(手前 沖縄芸能楽器「三線(サンシン)でかなり盛り上がりました!!!この後踊りも始まり・・・
wow, what a party.the weather was as bad as it could get for an outdoor party.it was cold, wet and miserable.so we moved it into the barn.saturday night started off with byakko prayer for peace in the world ceremony.we prayed for all the countries in the world to have peace.prayer lead by otasan of sarabetsu.we prayed for 192 countries one at a time and then for all the other countries not on the list.
next was a brief opening speach by myself.then itosan from agrisystems said some things about his hope for the future of biodynamics in sarabetsu and tokachi.
after that it was snack time and time to light the bonfire.it was wet but it started right away no problem.

the band showed up right on time.ken saitoh played the keyboards and his friend tsukamotosan played the guitar.the guitarist brought with him 4 different guitars.each one had its own sound.ken sang most or all the vocals and was excellent.most of his songs were american songs and he preformed them just like an american.actually he said he spent some time in california.i forgot how long he told me he stayed there, but it sounded like i was home in the usa.we had a guest musician get up on stage and played a traditional instrument and song with ken from his hometown in okinawa.it was beautiful and the crowd loved it and sang along and begged for more so he played another song.after a couple more song from ken it was time to say good night to the elders and some people stayed late for an interesting disscusion about em.positivity and negetivity.very interesting disscusion.we invited most of those folks to our study group we are trying to put together.we want to talk about rudolf steiner's agriculture course and anything to help us be better farmers and anthroposopishist.more about our plans for a study group later.

now it was time to start the fire for the pig.50kg is more than 50lbs.so i had to redesign the pit.just as soon as i started the fire it rained hard and didnot stop raining until about 10:00 that next morning.i stayed with the pig until 5:00.konomi went to bed at 3:00 and relieved me from 5:00 to 7:00.so we both only got 2 hours of sleep.we both worked pretty hard at putting on this party.but we were glad to do it for our friends and neighbors.45 people had a good time the first night despite the rain.
the next morning our neighbor okadesan came early to help out with the soup.i bet she was shocked at the way we looked.you can imagine how one looks when one is covered in mud and charcoal.
we prepared the soup salad and drinks and snacks until 12:noon when the pig was ready to serve.25 people got to eat the best part of the pig the tenderloin.some got seconds then it was ham.
we had 3 volunteers from a waldorf school in date city to help us set up the party and helped clean up too.thier names are na chan, teru, and taku.the food that was leftover was donated to the kyodogakusha community.they helped with the cleanup too.
we would like to thank all the people who donated cups sauceres and food, lights and labor.
this was our first big event.we learned alot from this experience.there will be more events.the weather is something to consider for one thing.
we still have a mission to spread the word about biodynamic agriculture.these events will help do that along with good fellowship.hopefully we were able to raise an interest among the participants and maybe we will hear back from them soon.if not we will try harder next event.
thank all of you for coming and/or wishing us success.love and peace.ben.
