私たちは去年の2月にスイスのドルナッハにあるゲーテアヌムの招待を受け、日本のバイオダイナミック事情 についてのスピーチを(バイオダイナミック農業者会議で)してきました。私たちはそこで素晴らしい人々にお 会いすることができ、精神的なサポートを彼らから頂きました。もし私たちが助けを求めれば、彼らは喜んで出 来ることをしてくださるでしょう。私たちは地球の将来のために、農業の最もよい方法であるバイオダイナミッ クができるように、今もまだ一生懸命働いています。私たちは私たちがやっているバイオダイナミックの仕事の 結果を見て、感じることができるので、バイオダイナミック農業にこれまで以上に確信をもつことができます。 それで世界の人々が目覚め、みんなが、私たちの次世代のために、ライフスタイルを変える必要があると思える 時のために準備しています。
時々私はユーチューブを見て、人々が地球のために素晴らしいことを行なっているのを見ることがあります。パ ーマカルチャー、アースシップ、そしてエコビレッジなど。世界の沢山の人々がしています。多分日本もでしょ う。でも彼らはどこにいるのでしょう?そしてそのような地球を癒すことに興味をもっている人々と繋がること ができるのでしょうか?
私たちはマリアトウーンの樽堆肥(BC)が放射能問題によいということを知っているいくつかのところに送り、 良い結果を聞いています。私たちは原発に反対しているので、自分たちのエネルギーを(原子力にたよらずに) なんとかするようにしたいと思っています。私たちは私たちができる最高の調剤を作ることで信用を得、アント ロポゾフィー協会本部が私たちの側に立って助けてくれるのを知っています。私たちのファームは毎年調剤を撒 くことで少しずつ土がよくなってきています。私たちの堆肥はファームのものだけで出来てくるでしょう。最初 の2,3年、私たちは牛の冬の餌がすべて確保できず、近所の農家さんで化学肥料や農薬を使わずに作っている 乾草を買わなくてはなりませんでした。また堆肥に入れるために数個の乾草を他の農家さんから頂き使いました。 それは多分化学肥料を使っている乾草です。でも今は、私たちは堆肥を自分たちの農場からのもので作ることが 出来ます。今年ほとんど自分たちで作った乾草で冬を超すことが出来ましたが、それでも2,3個の牧草ロール を化学肥料を使っていない農家さんから買わなくてはならないでしょう。牛たちは私たちのファームで作った乾 草を食べ、そして私たちに堆肥にする牛糞をくれます。そしてそれは調剤によって調整され、牛たちが食べる放 牧地、採草地、私たちが食べ、CSA(野菜)会員さんが食べる野菜の畑に撒きます。そして(畑、放牧地、牛、 野菜)すべてが向上していきます。
ファームが必要なものによって理想的な農場にするのに私たちが必要とするのは、多くの労働力と少々の設備のためのお金です。
私は私たちのような暮らし方で10組の家族で完全自給自足で暮らすことを想像することができます。完全に自給 自足するためには、同じか同様の関心をもっている人々の共同体であることです。まずはじめに、バイオダイナ ミック農業がずっとできる土地トラストか NPO か、共同体が所有する土地を確保することです。私たちはバイオ ダイナミックファームコミュニティーを始めるために、ここ北海道の本別に来ました。私たちは自分たちで育て たパン用の小麦で製粉しパンを作れるようにベーカリーを始めました。30件のCSA会員のための野菜畑があって、素晴らしいCSAコアメンバーとそれにウーフ※のボランティアがとても大きな助けをしてくれ、CSAは よくなってきているし、幾人かのCSAメンバーとその友達が、私たちがやっていることに興味をもってくれて います。私たちの牛はみんな健康で、バイオダイナミック調剤で調整された放牧地の青草と乾草を食べています。 私たちには私たちの牛たちのための何人かのサポーターがいますが、将来生乳と他の乳製品を生産したいと思っ ている農業者のための法的なシステム「牛シェア」プログラムのモデルが必要です。私たちは私たちのファームか、他の日本のバイオダイナミック農場で種牛を持つ必要があると思っています。私たちは現在、これらのすべて のことをしていて、私たちのような人がより多くいるなら、私たちはもっとファームの他のこともでき、またい くらかの休みを取ることもできます。私たちがファームでしたいと思っているいくつかのものの一つとして、フ ァームの土地と動物を持続して肥沃にする適正な数の動物によって土地を向上させることです。私たちは放し飼いの鶏とブタも欲しいと思っています。私たちのアイディアは、できるかぎり食卓に載るものをファームで賄い たいと思っています。それは、家畜のために冬の間のエサを作り、貯蔵することも意味します。また私たち自身 の種も取ります。私たちは初めて蜂を飼育しようと思っています。これは農業以上の意味があります。
ニューヨークにあるハウソムバレーファームは日本にあればと思う私たちがしたいことのいい例です。そこでは、 CSA(野菜、肉、卵そしてパン、冬のシェア、そして牛シェア)パン屋、シュタイナー学校、バイオダイナミ ック研修制度、そしてエコビレッジをしています。私たちはこれらのことを始めましたが、それらのことを続け る人々、あなたを必要としています。すべての人のために世界中で起こっている、世界が良くなっていく変化を見るために、私たちの回りの人々を目覚めさせる必要があります。今、ファーム研修制度を始める良い時でしょう。起こるべきことは起こるべくなっていくでしょう。私たちはとても安い生活費で生きています。研修生には 私たちのいるファーム内に住む家が必要でしょう。私たちは今年の冬はパン工房とキッチンと事務所を兼ねた仮 設住宅に住んでいましたが、もうすぐ山の牧草地に建てた小屋に移るつもりです。出来る限り水、電気、ガスを 節約し、消費主義から抜けたいと思っています。(私たちは(もちろん)地球にやさしい建物をファームに建てた いと思っています。)アントロポゾフィーのひとつのこの運動のために、進んで関わりたいと思う人がいるでしょ う。人生を変えたいと思っている人々がいます。彼らは無駄な習慣をあきらめ、人類の利益に貢献したいと思っていますが、どこに行けば人生を変えられるのかを知らないのだと私は確信しています。
どうぞご自分の心中を見てください。そして私が50歳の時に(バイオダイナミックの)研修生になると決めたということを考えてみ てください。私は独身で負債を持っていました。そして私は再び見ることが出来なかった、使ったお金のために 働いていました。私は負債を払うために私がもっていたほとんどすべての物質的な(仕事や個人的なもの)立場 を売って、最後に(そのような物質的なしがらみ&負債から)自由になりました。それは負債から抜ける素晴ら しい開放でした。しかしそれ以降、私は低所得になりましたが、幸せでした。ファームにはいつも食べ物、水、 そして住むところがあります。人間には3つの基本的に必要なものがあります。それが私のためにありました。 そしてバイオダイナミック農法は食べるための食料を作ること以上の多様性があります。モノカルチャーファー ム(単一栽培農場)ではありません。私はオーガニック農業をバージニアでしていたので有機的な経験は知って いました。私は一人で農業ができるまで研修生としてバイオダイナミック農場で働くか、またはコミュニティー に参加することもできました。でも今、私はバイオダイナミックファームで妻このみと共にここにいます。そし て自分の食べ物を育て、ほとんど私がずっと望んでいた生活をしています。毎年ファームは良くなっていきます が、私たちの近くの小さな町ではバイオダイナミックやアントロポゾフィーの認識とCSA会員の参加はそれほ ど速くは動きません。私たちはCSAメンバーのリクルートのために片道90分(約80km)かかる帯広に行かなくてはなりません。私たちは近くに沢山ある小さな町に会員ができればいいな、と思っています。私たちは、現在、 素晴らしいCSAメンバーがいて、メンバーは世界恐慌に気づき、私たちがそのことにたいして行なっていることを助けてくれていることに感謝しています。また釧路にも何人かの素晴らしい人々がいて、CSA運動を助け てくださっています。その中にはCSAを始めた時から会員を続けてくださっている方もいます。今、私たちの 親友の一人が帯広でオーガニック蕎麦屋を始めました。そしてその店がCSAの野菜シェアの時期(6月〜11 月)毎週木曜日に私たちの野菜をCSAメンバーにシェアする会場(引取会場)になることになっています。それで、今この場所はオーガニックやエコに関心がある人々の交流点になっています。私たちはそこで良い人々と 出会うことができるでしょう。私たちは他にも素晴らしい友達がいて、彼女はオーガニックについてのフリーペ ーパーを始めました。フリーペーパーにはこの地域のオーガニック農家たちや食のコラム、そして私が書くコラ ムもあります。
もし私たちがこのローカルな地域だけで必要なCSAの会員数が得られない場合は、拡大してこ の運動に賛同して私たちのCSAシステムに協力してくださるグループに野菜を発送することを考えています。
でも私たちはローカルな人々が関わることができるまで(多分2年間)しか発送しないかもしれません。私たち はローカルな地域でこの運動があちこちに広がることを望んでいるので、グループができたらそのグループが独 自な CSA を創造してくださるか、私たちのところに来て一緒にするか、または他の方法を創りだしてくれたらと 願っているからです。
世界中にはすでに大変成功しているバイオダイナミック農場がありますが、私はそれが世界のどこよりもここ(日本で)必要だと思っています。日本にはまさしくアメリカ人のような社会的で経済的な 問題がありますが、草の根運動的な市民運動は私が知っているアメリカ人ほど強くないようです。バイオダイナミックファーム共同体の可能性は、ここと今私たちがいるここにあります。
あなたは一緒にやりますか?それと も私たちをサポートしますか?私たちは共同体を経営したがっている人ではなく、私たちはただここのはじめにいるだけであり、あらゆるものがどこにあるかを知っているだけです。私たちはバイオダイナミックファーム共同体のライフスタイルに興味をもっている他の人と話したいです。そしてファームで別々の家に住み共存したい と思っています。
あなたは私たちを助けることができます。

We were invited to the Geotheanum in Dornach Switzerland last Feburary and we gave a speech about The BioDynamic situation in Japan. We have met some great people there and we have their moral support.
If we need their help they will gladly do what they can for us. There has been a change in us on this farm.
We are still working hard to make available the best way to farm for the earths future.
We believe whole heartedly in Bio Dynamic Agriculture more so now than ever before because we can see and feel the results of our work and knowing we will be prepared for when the people of the world to wake up and see that we all need a change in our life styles to have a place for our future generations.
Sometimes I'll look at the u tube and see the amazing things people are doing to save our planet.From permaculture to earthships and ecovillages.There are many people doing this all over the world .Probably here too.But where are they?And how do we connect with these kind of people who are interested in healing the earth?
That trip there was one of the highlights of my life.It was significant for Japan also.It was the first time a Bio Dynamic Japanese association was present at the Agriculture conference(B.A.A.J.) and we were proud to be there and represent Japan. They know we make Maria thun's Barrel compost concentrate too for help with the Nuclear disater .We have sent some down there and got good responses.We are against nuclear power and hope to provide our own power soon.
Knowing that we have the help of the headquarters of the Anthroposphical society on our sides really gives us confidence to make our preparations the best they can be.
Our farm is sprayed every year with our preps that we make and the soil is slowly improving.Our compost is now coming from within the farm.
The first couple of years we had to buy hay from a neighbor who makes hay with no chemicals and we used some dry hay from another neighbor for making our compost.It was maybe chemicals.But now we can make compost from the farm.We made almost enough of our own hay this year to make it through the winter.Maybe we have to buy two or three round bales from our no chemical hay farmer.
The cows are eating the hay we made from the farm and the manure they give us is composted and treated with the bd preps and spread on the feilds where they eat from and in the garden where we eat and share our vegetables through our CSA and everything is improving.
Only we need more labor and little more money for building so on to make more complete the ideal farm of what is needed.
I can imagine 10 families like us living together and being totally self sufficient. To be totally self sufficient it takes a community of people who have the same or similar interests.The Amish are a good example of a long lasting and successful farm community.First is to secure some land where it can stay Bio Dynamic forever.A land trust , N.P.O.or community owned. We came here to Honbetsu to start a bio dynamic farm community.We started a Bakery and will be growing and milling our own wheat into flour for baking.We have a 30 members CSA garden and are doing well with the help of some great core group members and volunteers from wwoof, some csa members and friends interested in what we are doing.Our CSA membership can grow to 200 shares if we want.Our cows are all healthy and grass and hay fed on bio dynamically treated pasture and hayfeilds. They are hand milked with love and care.We have some supporters for our cows but we need a legal system as a model of a cowshare program for future farmers who want to produce raw milk and other dairy products.We need to work out a bull for the farm or have one somewhere in Japan that is on another BD farm in Japan. We are doing these things now and if we had more people like us we can do more as a farm and have some time off for whatever.
Some things we all would want to do as a farm is improve the land with the proper amout of livestock to maintain the right balance of fertility for land and animals.
We would want to have free range chickens and pigs. Our idea would be to supply everything we need for the table from within the farm as much as possible. That means growing our own feed for the livestock for the winter time and storing it properly. Saving our own seed too. We will be trying to keep bees for the first time onwards.There is more to this than agriculture.
We would want to teach our children at home or in a waldorf school. We would want to share the ideas more people with bio dynamics and waldorf education.
Hawthorne Valley Farm in New York is a good example of how we want to be forJapan.
CSA(vegetables,meats, eggs and bread,winter shares and cowshares), Bakery, Waldorf school, Bio Dynamic apprenticeships and ecovillage.
We have started these things and need you to be one of these people to keep going. And we need to wake up the peolpe around us to see the change that is happening around the world for a better world for all of us. Now would be a good time to start an apprentice ship program at the farm.Things are almost where they should be. We live very inexpensively. An apprentice would need a fulltime residence with us on the farm. We are living in the bakery this winter and will move to the mountain pasture house soon. We conserve water and electricity and gas as much as possibleand are not caught up in consumptionism. we want to build some facilities at farm all earth freindly ,of course. People would be more willingly wanting to stay and be part of this movement for anthroposophy. I'm sure there are people out there who want a change in their lives and want to give up their wasteful habits and contribute to the good of humanity but they don't know where to go to change.
Look inside yourself and think like I did when I decided to go to be an apprentice at fifty years old. I was single in debt and was working to spend my money where I could not see it again. I sold almost all my material possesions to get out of debt and became free finanicially. That was a great relief to be out of debt but i was low income after that but happy.There is always food, water and shelter on a farm. The three basic necessities of life for man. So that was for me. And biodynamic farming there is a much wider diversity of food to eat from.
Not a Monoculture farm. I knew with the organic experience I gained as a home garden/ farmer in Virginia that I can survive as an apprentice on a BD farm until I could farm on my own or join in a community of others who want to do the same thing as me. So now I'm here with Konomi on a BD farm and growing our own food and surviving almost like I have always wanted. Every year the farm gets better but the awareness and participation is not growing very fast in the small towns near us. We have to drive 90 minutes to Obihiro to recruit CSA members, when there are many small towns closer to us whom we wish we could connect with. We are thankful for the great CSA members we have now, they are awake to the world crisis and are helping us do something about it. We also have some good people in Kushiro trying to help with our CSA movement there. Some have been members since the first delivery day. We now have one of our best freinds in Obihiro that has opened up an organic soba noodle shop and this will be our dropoff point on thursdays during the CSA garden season. So now at this place we have a connection point for all people who are interested in organics and eco lifestyles. So we'll see if we can meet some good people there. We have another great freind who has started a free organic newspaper with topics about organic farms and foods of the area and I write a column for her once a month.
So if we do not get the number of members we need locally we are willing to ship our CSA shares to a few members in Japan only.
But only until we can get more local people involved (maybe 2 years) then we will stop shipments and wish that these peolple we have shipped to will help to create their own CSA,s or come join us here or make other arrangements. There are already some very sucessful BD farm communities all over the world but I think it is needed here more than anywhere. The third world countries are starveing. Japan has social and economical problems just like Americans but don't have the grassroots movement as strong as Americans where I come from. A biodynamic farm community is our hope for our survival. The possiblities of a BD farm community is here and now with us. Will you join us? Or support us? We are not the ones who want to run the community, We are just the first ones here and know where every thing is. We want to talk to others interested in a Bio Dynamic community lifestyle and live together in different houses on the farm.

I'm just a simple man, who married a wonderful Japanese woman who wants to help Japan become more bio dynamic. We are both doing our best for this ideal farm community. If this farm community idea does'nt get to happen with us I hope it happens for someone else somewhere else here in Japan.
